Jang Dong-gun and Jung Ryu-won do Giordano

20080212giordano2

Spring is right around the corner (finally!). And casual clothing brand Giordando already brought out the big gun, Jang Dong-gun and Jung Ryu-won as the models of choice for the new season. Absent from the ads is fellow superstar, Rain.

Doesn’t the face painting make you feel all spring-y inside?

Jang Dong-gun will star in the upcoming movie Laundry Warrior (2008).

I miss the old ads with Jeon Ji Yeon and Jung Woo Sung in them.. I think the concept was also better. I’m not really feelin’ the paint on the face, but they are both very good looking people.

  3. 3 jyyjc February 13, 2008 at 9:11 am

oooh i love it. especially the first picture.

  4. 4 Bluelily February 13, 2008 at 9:14 am

  5. 5 saewon February 13, 2008 at 9:25 am

it’s a nice concept. i like their creativity.

  6. 6 Coutura February 13, 2008 at 9:27 am

They look good, but Giordano copied the AIDs foundation’s “I am African” ad, the painted designs, slogan, concept and all.

oh not again…….duh….which is which GIORDIANO or GIORDANDO….oh my gosh POPSEOUL…………….

  11. 11 Sarai February 13, 2008 at 9:49 am

The ads are pretty cool. 8D

  12. 12 monalisa February 13, 2008 at 9:55 am

To Johnnydorama - your jealousy and envy of JDG is pretty obvious! He could sue you for that comment and I hope he does!

  13. 13 hanah lee February 13, 2008 at 9:58 am

i’m tired of that two polo shirts look.

  14. 14 joyce February 13, 2008 at 10:07 am

i dont really see anything creative in these ads

  15. 15 Dumpling February 13, 2008 at 10:24 am

Nothing profound here, but I do like these. I already saw them posted elswhere about a month or so ago. The butterfly one is so sweet looking. Actually, almost all of JDG’s Giordano ads look really good. I just hate the ones with Drizzle and that girl and JDG all together. It’s a really awkward scenario where the three of them are supposed to be in different situations looking like pals. But it’s just fake.

On another note, I just finished ‘The Coast Guard’, which means I have officially seem ALL of JDG’s movies! Sweeeeeeeet. And they are all wonderful in their own way.

Now, I just have to get my hands on K-dramas ‘Medical Brothers’ and ‘All About Eve’ and I’ll be all squared away.

  16. 16 daneil February 13, 2008 at 10:36 am

OOO jang dong gun reminds me of depp too!
both are hott and can act so no problem with me

anyways, these ads okay. JungWooSung & JeonJiHyun were thebest together

and then after that was the JWS,JJH& JDG ad

are u the same Dumpling that usually post on POpseoul? Cuz i remember that Dumpling hates JDG to the root of her hair. If you are the same Dumpling, then i’m glad that you’ve seen his charm. He truly is one remarkable man…

  31. 31 nohaters@peace.com February 13, 2008 at 1:24 pm

    III…

from what i read about JDG, he is a nice guy. Polite, humble, hardworking, a good son, talented, so caring towards his friends/juniors (he’s very close to hyun bin),never caused any trouble at filming sites…and it doesn’t hurt that he is VERY easy on the eyes. So what’s there not to like about him? Even Popseoul writer(s) likes him!

    Popseoul…you have a great taste!

  32. 32 Steph February 13, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Ummm.. This ad screams plagiarism. “I AM AFRICA”? I was expecting popseoul to point this out… but I guess not.

  33. 33 spin February 13, 2008 at 1:44 pm

    agree w/ Coutura’s

…Giordano copied the AIDs foundation’s “I am African” ad, the painted designs, slogan, concept and all.
    —-

its a lame campaign. I’m amazed that giordano has allowed themselves to become stale w/ 2 such vibrant ppl as JRW and JDG =.=

  34. 34 May February 13, 2008 at 1:57 pm

Thank god Rain wasn’t in here or it would have been one awkward threesome

  35. 35 kprocks89 February 13, 2008 at 2:07 pm

    nice pics

  36. 36 ginger vitality February 13, 2008 at 2:30 pm

I think the idea itself is not original. Obviously it is from Aids’s ad. As much as I like you Popseoul (s), personally I think doing some resech wouldn’t hurt that will make fair things enough for both parties ie. the Aids and Giordano. But whatever it is what more can I asked for. Thanks for this post.

JDG is never make me bored, I never so much a fan or attracted when saw him in All About Eve, but when heard all people spazzing about him, then I discovered he is really something. Beside a great looking creature he also a decent and down to earth man. Not mention the fact he is succesful actor out there.

JRW is great as usual in modelling.

  37. 37 ed February 13, 2008 at 2:56 pm

face paint, butterfly…mm time to break out the big bong. spring is here!

  38. 38 mylasan February 13, 2008 at 3:13 pm

JDG is always hot in all Giordano CFs. I love this man.

    @johnnydorama
Saying that JDG is a real life pimp a compliment? Do you know what are you talking about?

  39. 39 Lana February 13, 2008 at 3:17 pm

    Those are two GORGEOUS people!

  40. 40 catcat February 13, 2008 at 3:23 pm

@Orchid…Love the face art. But Jang Dong-gun has been a Giordano model for ages and ages…They should bring in a fresh face & body!

Why would they change JDG if he can sell the products? Giordano is not stupid enough to pay JDG a huge fee to endorse the product if he can’t deliver. JDG is very good CF endorser that’s why so many advertisers wanted him for their products.

  41. 41 monalisa February 13, 2008 at 3:49 pm

If calling someone a pimp is a compliment, then I should call you a nincompoop; it’s a compliment for someone with a pea-size brain!

  42. 42 Dumpling February 13, 2008 at 8:40 pm

Actually, I never said I hated JDG “to the root of his hair” (that’s a great expression, by the way!). What I said was that I didn’t get why he was so popular and that he annoyed me to no end and I was sick of seeing him everywhere. But I am a fair person and when several people told me I HAD to see his movies before I could judge, then I did. Yes, I converted! Truly, he’s one of the best actors out there and I really adore him.

    P.S.

I think I also said he was too thin, but I’m not retracting that. He *is* too thin. But he’s still awesome.

  43. 43 Dumpling February 13, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I wish Aya would come into this thread.

Aya, are you here?? If you see this, I wanted to tell you I saw “Chingu” because you told me to. Remember, a few months ago? And after that I went and got every single one of JDG’s movies. Now I have seen all of them! ALL of them…even “Nowhere to Hide”, LOL!

I haven’t seen Aya around PopSeoul in a long time….

  44. 44 Jee February 13, 2008 at 9:47 pm

I didnt just love JDG becoz of his looks~ its because he’s one great actor !!! Dumpling have you seen Taegukgi too and Coastguard? hehe. I would love to see him in a new movie..

  45. 45 Jee February 13, 2008 at 9:48 pm

  46. 46 Jee February 13, 2008 at 9:51 pm

    @Dumpling;

Oh youve seen Coastguard, He was great in Medical Brothers. JDG and Lee Youngae together… that was sweet.. hehe ! He seemed mediocre in AAE but nevertheless I still liked his acting ^^

  51. 51 Gigi February 13, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Donggun-ssi is a real hottie. He is fantastic in his ads. He knows how to express himself…a real artist to the core.

“You are the song playing in my heart…”

  52. 52 Dumpling February 14, 2008 at 12:12 am

    @ Jee

Yep, saw Coast Guard. JDG was amazing in that (so was the actress who played the girl, don’t know her name). I am looking forward to seeing Medical Brothers–Lee Young Ae is one of my favorite actresses. I can’t wait to see the two of them together. As for All About Eve, I read that is still considered one of Korea’s all-time top K-dramas (along with Winter Sonata which I wasn’t real crazy about). So I have to have that on my list. I saw Taeguki a couple of years ago but I did watch it again recently since I was going through all of JDG’s movies anyway. I re-watched The Promise as well (that was a painfully bad movie, though JDG was so cute as Kunlun–I do like that character). I agree with you, it’s not about his looks. He’s truly an excellent actor. Looks are a bonus but they can hinder an actor as well. Look at Bae Yong Joon. He’s so handsome but can you imagine him playing JDG’s character in Coast Guard? No, not really. But JDG has looks that are good but he’s not “perfect”, so he’s able to be more diverse. I thought he was amazing in Chingu and Typhoon. Also, I actually really loved the movie “Love Wind, Love Song”. I not only liked JDG in that, I loved the whole movie and I don’t usually like these sweet Korean love stories.

    P.S.

JDG’s MAX beer commercials are HILARIOUS. They are so adorable. My favorite is the one in the grocery store. Cute-ness! Anyone who hasn’t seen the MAX commercials should try to find them online. You will truly laugh out loud.

  53. 53 Dumpling February 14, 2008 at 12:16 am

    @ for real

I don’t think it’s that JDG has a small face. I think the girl has a big face (nothing wrong with that, she’s very pretty). I noticed it before in some other ads with her in them. It’s not very wide, but it’s a bit long. It’s her face that is matching his, not the other way around.

  54. 54 johnnydorama February 14, 2008 at 12:17 am

So, I’m assuming you idiots aren’t from the U.S. Slang usage of the word PIMP is a compliment. Now, STFU and go back into your 3rd world caveholes.

  55. 55 Dumpling February 14, 2008 at 12:32 am

There’s NOTHING flattering about the word “pimp”. Stop trying to speak for Americans. No one in America uses this “slang” (translation: “insult”) except in rap/hiphop culture, where the word means anything but something nice and flattering.

  56. 56 YooYoo February 14, 2008 at 1:50 am

Jang Dong Gun is a perfect man! ^_^

  57. 57 invisibelle February 14, 2008 at 1:58 am

haha, I’m sorry, the face paint just made me laugh. seriously, wtf. hahaha.

  58. 58 melda February 14, 2008 at 2:07 am

    @Dumpling
It’s so nice to read that you appreciate JDG’s acting now.

Although I don’t like the story of Coastguard, JDG’s acting there is really good. And I really admire JDG because he accepted that movie eventhough he was just paid only about 10% of his usual talent fee when hes very popular and could choose a big budgeted movie that time. But since he really wanted to work with the director of coastguard, he accepted that film and even said that he’s willing to do the movie even for free just to have the chance to work with the coastguard’s director. Imagine almost doing the film for free and working very hard for that movie without thinking of his looks, JDG is really a true actor.

  59. 59 The1One February 14, 2008 at 2:16 am

@Dumpling - are you kidding me? If you call any guy a pimp, they would be happy. I’m a guy & I’m American. In my circle of friends and most circles in this country, you call the guy who gets all the chicks a pimp. That’s standard, not only in rap culture but in mainstream culture (youth). There’s a double standard here, if you call a girl a hoe / slut it’s derogatory, if you call a guy a pimp it’s complimentary.

  60. 60 johnnydorama February 14, 2008 at 2:21 am

dumpling - let me break it to you easily - simplified for the feeble minded, so you can save yourself from the embarrassment, without further ado:

    1. Don’t try to act like you know what you are talking about.

    2. Go study some more American slang usage, matter of fact, first master your engRish.

    3. A lot of people use the term PIMP, not only in hip-hop culture, but just regular street slang… it is in fact a compliment. We are not talking about the literary meaning here, slang usage of the word PIMP would mean something along the lines of: someone who is handsome, gets all the women, has a lot of money, etc.

    4. You just got owned.

  61. 61 riksa February 14, 2008 at 2:39 am

    @johnnydorama

Please take note that about 99% of Popseoul readers are Asians and for Asians like us, calling a person a pimp is not a compliment but an insulting remarks. If that word is acceptable in America, It would never be acceptable in Asia.

    @The1One

If the word “PIMP” a complimentary for you and very acceptable in your cicle of friends, then it’s OK. You can can call among your friends PIMPS as much as you liked. But please, don’t try to persuade the readers here that the word PIMP is a generally acceptable term because it’s not.

  62. 62 The1One February 14, 2008 at 2:46 am

riksa - then you & the others should take the stick out of your collective azzes. If it wasn’t meant to be insulting & instead a compliment, then take it as such & move on.

  63. 63 Omo February 14, 2008 at 2:47 am

Thanks Popseoul for editing johnnydorama’s post.

  64. 64 popseoul February 14, 2008 at 2:50 am

no problem omo - we are just doing our job :P

  65. 65 johnnydorama February 14, 2008 at 2:55 am

@riksa: 99% are Asians, yet we type in English and this is an ENGLISH SPEAKING WEBSITE BASED IN AMERICA - which could only lead to one not so shocking conclusion: the majority of readers are actually Asian-Americans!

Regardless of your useless statistic however, 99% of Popseoul posts are insulting, and 99% of my comments are insulting as well (the one about JDG was not)… but if you still don’t like my comments, you can take 100% of my fist and shove it up your already full ass.

  66. 66 VOX February 14, 2008 at 3:25 am

Wow, debating on words. Generally speaking, I think most guys would take pimp as a compliment. It’s just how its used and its context. Why do people say you’re gay when someone does something idiotic? It’s just the context & how it’s used.

lol @Johnnydorama. I guess only smart people with a sense of humor understand you. And i guess some people need to get in touch with their urban vocabulary. Even girls like to call themselves pimps if they can pick up a some good looking guy/girls in America.

    Also, thank you, The1One

@ Dumpling, I haven’t either. Haha, I miss all the smart commentors on popseoul.

    @ melda

“Although I don’t like the story of Coastguard, JDG’s acting there is really good.”

The acting was great. The story was troubling. It seemed so obviously politically motivated, which made me question why JDG was so eager to participate in a movie like that. I think more than the subject material he just knew he would really be able to stretch himself under this director.

The DVD that I had has an introduction by the director where he makes a brief statement about the movie and the story he wanted to tell. I found the statement to be very rude and very selfish. Luckily, I watched the introduction AFTER I watched the movie, so I had an open mind. In the statement the director complains about the real-life young men who are subjected to all kinds of difficulties guarding the coast and “we haven’t seen a spy since 2000″ and there’s no reason for all this fuss, that it only leads to problems. Basically, he was saying the ROK guarding the coast is a waste of time and too hard on the soldiers. So he said that’s why he wanted to make this movie and tell this story (a story which is FICTIONAL, by the way–in no way is it based on real events. So he wrote the most outlandish and sensational story he could think of–in which 2 soldiers are harassed by a group of locals, called names, assaulted and threatened, and their service demeaned, i.e. “you just waste tax payers’ money”–just so he could prove a “point” that life is “hard” for the young soldiers guarding S.Korea’s coast line. And all the soldiers in the movie are portrayed as bad guys. It’s a bit anti-military, I would say.

Yeah, I thought it was a dirty trick, this movie. But I loved JDG’s performance too much to hate the movie altogether. I just think the director has issues and comes off as an angry and spoiled child.

By the way, I’ve seen some of the director’s other movies and they always have a scene of women being treated in a sexually agressive way. Can’t help but notice that. All of his movies that I have seen (I think I have seen 4–Coast Guard was the 4th one) are all like this. Dude is a great filmaker but he has issues.

  71. 71 lll February 14, 2008 at 12:02 pm

JDG looks really good for his age.

    @Dumpling
Rain and JDG are friends. They weren’t pretending.
