What is Hankyung Up To?

Since Hankyung (Hangeng) took his leave from Super Junior and SM Entertainment, what exactly has he been doing?
Fans were surprised to find the ex-Super Junior member in a commercial for a 3D online game from China.
In the commercial, Hankyung is seen getting yelled at by his female boss at the place where he’s a part-time worker. As, in the commercial, it’s his dream to become a singer, you see him dancing around to his headphones. The boss scolds him, “What do you think you’re doing? You think this is a concert or something? This is a place of business.”
Not being able to take it anymore, Hankyung becomes angry and is transported into the game, where he fights his evil boss, defeats her, and (back to reality) becomes the singer he dreamt of.
Some (crazy) netizens are seeing this commercial as a betrayal to his Korean fan base, because “he’s continuing to do activities even though he hasn’t cleaned everything back up in Korea.”
Other fans are delighted to see Hankyung’s face again, even though it’s not in Korean or with Super Junior members.
In December of 2009, Hankyung broke up with SM Entertainment due to an unfair contract and announced that he plans to go solo in the Chinese market. He is currently doing activities alone, as in this commercial.

The game looks pretty exciting, but there seems to be some netizen hate uprising from the news getting to the peninsula over a month after the commercial was released.

the fact that he had no intentions of clearing things up before he even started his “solo” career makes me angry! Leeteuk had said once that they havent heard anything from Hangeng in a while and to me that’s just REALLY selfish of him! even though he had an unfair contract he should have thought about how much he was going to hurt his brothers that he had trained for many years with, he should have thought about their feelings and possibly how unfair their contract must be also.
if he has no intentions of clearing things up before he furthers his solo career i have no intentions of being his fan anymore. someone as such, i feel does not deserve my praise and respect.
i don’t think you know the situation. Leeteuk and Hankyung were never really that close, they always had a bit of awkwardness between them, same applies with some of the other members. Hankyung was close with Siwon and Heechul and to an extend Kibum, he DOES keep in touch with them. Hankyung is not a saint. He needs to think about is own survival first. SM were already overworking him in Korean and China where he had added responsibilities and leader and main attraction, if he went on like this for his brothers or not he might have seriously damaged his health (if it weren’t already screwed up anyway.)
Also, ever thought that maybe some of the members were actually glad he was gone? There’s enough members as it is, with him gone, this would be a time for others to climb into the limelight. Also, “consider their feelings?” so to keep the other members from being “hurt” he has to continue being overworked and endanger his health? If he did that I would call him an idiot.
Oh, he’s also cleared up everything on his side with his lawyers, it’s SM that keeps delaying things and dragging it on.
Well, in Hangeng’s defense… there’s a LOT that we don’t know. Period and full stop. Most (I would argue “all”) of the K-idols have hugely successful stage images that they have to perpetuate and uphold. What goes on behind scenes is something that we aren’t privileged to unless their strict management lets us know. For all us outsiders know, Hangeng’s calls/emails/texts have been strictly monitored and his numbers banned so that the SJ members can’t say anything but, “Yeah, we haven’t heard from him since he broke the contract.” Also, can’t blame the man for wanting to get on with his life and solo career. As someone who knows a *little* something about litigation… basically, the end goal is to try to paperwork the other party to death. Litigation — especially ones like these — could easily go on for YEARS. Do you just want him to sit idly by simply because Korean fans want him to clear the air first? He’s made it pretty obvious that he no longer wants to be active in the Korean market…. so why not let him move on?

He’s cleared everything up on his behalf. If you want to complain about the lack of answers, you should go complain to SM. They’ve been stalling and pretending to be STILL gathering evidence on purpose thinking it’ll prevent him from working. You can’t expect the guy to not work, he needs to make money to survive duh. <_<
Oh, and Leeteuk is SM's tool, he and Hangeng were never close. Hangeng keeps in touch with Heechul and Siwon. With all the fans he has in China, honestly a measly person such as yourself is not worthy to be worried about. You probably weren't ever a fan of his in the first place to come up with such assumptions so there's no loss on his behalf.
I think I’ve seen or read somewhere that while the court case is on, he isn’t allowed to contact the other members. Hankgeng’s said he would like to see them and perform with them again, but right now, while the contract is disolved, they just aren’t allowed.

Hnakyung has been doing HEAPS of things since leaving sm- like release a solo album which got over 270000 sales in 2 weeks, plenty of other commercials etcs and popseoul only posts about some online game?
Geez here we go again. Korean fans do not own the pop idols. If you guys keep bad mouthing Hankyung, we would love to have him in the US. Just send all those who don’t live up to “your” standards. We will welcome them with open arms. Learn to appreciate them for what they do and who they are. Your are fortunate to have such wonderful wholesome talent..

Would Hankyung make it in China if not for his exposure in Korea? I very much doubt it. The contract might have been unfair but nobody forces one to sign it.
Would sm/suju be as big as they are in China if not for Hankyung? I watched first hand as Chinese people got interested in Kpop because of Hankyung and got invited onto program because of HK. Chicken and egg situation.
Would most celebrities be where they are without their management companies? Just because they gave you opportunity doesn’t give them the right to treat you like a slave. There are plenty of sm failures. It takes work from the individual to get where they are too.

Okay basically i just found out about kpop in september in 2010 and have come to love ALL the suju members. hankyung, you have my full blown suppport on whatever you do! if u were ever a fan of his then stop bashing him. And i agree with you all who are happy to see him agin

Sigh… just let them be, for Hangeng, he have his own planning and dreams, and u hate him or not he still have a plenty fans and supporter, believe me it’s your own lost if your not his fan anymore, for me this man give me many good things to learn, he is a human, so he never can make everybody happy or like him, but you can see he is take care his life, more than other peoples do, there is still many poeples who westing his life not do anything and become useless, but for Hangeng, he can bless peoples with his life and story, isn’t it good?
