Who is the most popular in China?

Based on a Chinese website (, there was a survey on “Who is the most effective Asian star” and well according to the results; the most popular Asian star in China is……

SS501’s leader and an actor, he is Kim Hyun Joong. He is the most popular Asian in China. He got 3068 votes, which means 19.2%. he is this popular in china because “Playful Kiss” Korean drama just started there, and plus don’t forget that he is a leader of SS501, one the most popular boy band in the Asian World.

Second place goes to Song Seung Heon. He is currently acting in “My Princess” drama. He got 10.5% (1684 votes).

As for third place, it goes to SNSD’s member YoonA with 7.9% (1259 votes).

Forth place is Rain. Fifth is TVXQ’s Yunho. Sixth is Park Shin-Hye. Seventh is Lee Seung-Gi. Eighth is Kim Hee Chul. Ninth is Kim Jeong Hoon. Last but not least, Moon Geun Yeong.

So what do you think of the results, are they reasonable?

sad how the most popular Asian stars in China are all Koreans…hmmmm…

    • CadburysCreamEgg says:

This response would not include Chinese folks, as Chinese wouldn’t be voting for Chinese or Taiwanese or HKese people. If they were voting for Chinese people they’d have hundreds of people coming before all these folks, including those disbanded HK twins, Pan Wei Bo, Karen Mok, S.H.E…et al.

I’m guessing the questions were structured in such a way to be everything outside of china.

Don’t kid yourself if you think Korean people are suddenly popular in China. They’re really really not.

    • CadburysCreamEgg says:

It’s in a section called ‘Korean Entertainment’ or 韩娱频道 so it’s hardly surprising that they’re all korean people. As I said, Korean entertainers aren’t very popular, except for with chinese who live in qingdao and are maybe the mistress of some Korean guy working in China.

      • bd2 says:

Yeah, that’s why a Chinese site has a WHOLE SECTION geared to it (not to mention the endorsement opportunities).

Need to come up w/ better posts if you don’t want to look like a complete dumbarse.

        • lyn says:

unlike Korea and their restrictions and narrow mindedness huh? Still, even if they do have a section on kentertainment, doesn’t mean they don’t have their own stars they like better. Which, they have plenty of.

          • CadburysCreamEgg says:

You’re right. Koreans aren’t allowed to watch foreign entertainment, and the restrictions exist because foreign culture is ‘evil’, ‘backwards’ and takes away from the ‘perfection of korean culture’. At least the chinese freely open the doors to new things.

            • YAY says:

Plz back up your argument of Korean ppl being restricted from watching foreign entertainments just b/c those are considered as evil or w/e you’ve defined…Personally, I live outside of Korea, but I’m stiill restricted from accessing to some Chinese sites. Koreans are restricted? by whom? is it not Chinese govern’t that restricts the access from anywhere around the world, not Koreans themselves? Oh, also your argument just got backfired, since I’m a Korean who watches plentiful of foreign entertainment programs.
I don’t know where you get such an idea…Anyways, who are you to speak as if Koreans are not open-minded when you’re speaking with such a bias?

              • AngelDelight says:

Korean government has quotas on the amount of foreign programming which can be bought and shown in Korea. It has the same for any cultural product including music, which basically creates a ‘closed market’. This allows less talented artists to enter the field without having to worry about competing with ‘evil’ foreign talent, but this just waters down the talent pool and prevents any good talent from being generated. Hence you end up with a place like Korea where the government interferes with the free market and cripples itself because no one wants to buy their cultural products because they are low quality. (except for south-sudan and turkey). China’s market is open, hence it has malaysian, western and taiwanese singers competing for the same pot of gold, and increasing their talent.

        • blah says:

bd2 never said that the Chinese don’t have their own stars which they may, or may not, like better. He just made a very good point that Korean pop must be popular indeed in China in order for a well known Chinese entertainment website to have an entire section dedicated to Korean popular entertainment.

Basically, the commenter with the rotten EGG in his name made a complete ass of himself with his ignorant statement that Korean popular entertainment stars (including actors as well as singers) are not popular at all in China. Which we all know to be a complete falsehood. Again, this doesn’t mean that China doesn’t have their fair share of talented stars, I’m sure they do. But the whole point was whether or not Korean stars are also popular in China, and I think we can safely say that they are popular, especially Korean dramas.

          • CadburysCreamEgg says:

K-pop is not very popular in China. K-dramas are, but as are those made in Taiwan which most people watch, and those made in HK or singapore. American tv shows are popular too. The issue with K-pop is no one can understand it, and Chinese don’t care for learning Korean because they can just hire a Josunjuk translator in business. They also generally find Koreans a bit vain and big-headed for no reason.

          • Dave says:

well, they have an American/European sections too. And actually it’s not the “Korean section” alone. It’s the “Japan/Korea” section.

            • CadburysCreamEgg says:

It’s has ‘Korean Entertainment’ on the top of the section, so I wouldn’t expect them to vote for anyone Japanese in it.

Either way, it’s just another way for korean people to claim everyone in china loves korean stuff, without it actually being in any way true. To be honest, i’ve never even seen this website before, so it’s clearly for the fringes of society who love this talentless charade, probably intended for more women who cannot get guys like those americans who like korean men.

              • blah says:

Oh, and he’s also got a psychotic need to prove he has a bigger weiner than Americans and that Korean women would actually give him a second look, hence the sexually driven innuendos and emphatic statements that European males (for whom he has designated himself as their non-grata spokesman) don’t like Korean women.

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

Why do I need a big one? I never had any complaints so regardless of how small mine is, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

To be fair, European guys don’t have any interest in your Korean women. That’s why the few European guys in Korea typically date Chinese women. Compare this to the 2.8 million americans in Korea teaching korean children to be americanised are all dating your korean women.

Just deal with it, don’t let it get you angry.

              • blah says:

Well, it’s never been used so of course you’d never hear of any complaints.

And why don’t YOU get over it already. You’ve told me a gazillion times already that you don’t like Korean women, which is FINE. If you want to act as the non-grata European male spokesman, GO FOR IT! it’s your delusional world, do what you want with it.

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

So, you think anyone not liking korean women is ‘delusional’. Is that because all men must find Korean women attractive? This is something you were taught in school?

                • blah says:

No, I just find YOU delusional because you insist on speaking for all European males. But we’ve already made it clear that it’s just you hiding behind your imaginary status as European make spokesman non-grata, in an effort to lend more weight to your opinions.

          • blah says:

Rotten EGG likes to copy & paste from Wikopedia. Don’t let him fool you into thinking he knows anything about China or Korea, he just likes to throw “socially constructed factless opinions” around because nobody gives him any attention in real life. It’s also of no use trying to talk any logic or sense to him, because he lacks a brain and is therefore incapable of either.

            • CadburysCreamEgg says:

            • blah says:

Nice cut and paste action Cad.
              Quite impressive.

              • CadburysCreamEgg says:

                哈哈, 你看不懂?哈哈 非常好。

                촌국말을 읾을수 없어요?

              • blah says:

You’re Chinese and Korean is hideous, I can understand the Chinese script and I can definitely understand the Korean script to know that you need to find a more accurate website to cut and paste from!

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

It’s ‘your’ not ‘you’re’, I guess you learned this from USA.

You clearly cannot understand either, but it’s funny you claim to know chinese hahaah. Such faggotry.

Besides the korean is probably josunjukese. They use less american words.

                  Suck it up, fag.

                • blah says:

wow, so unforgiving of typos but I guess a dog who’s been kicked one too many times will try to attack at anything. And all that nonesense you just spouted doesn’t change the fact that you’re Chinese and Korean cut and pasting is HORRIBLE. You spelled practically all the words WRONG in both Chinese and Korean. Next time, why don’t YOU try finding a Joseon jok translator who’d be willing to stomach enough face-time with you, to actually type FOR you. Would make you looks less of an idiotic, imbecilic pasty white English boy clearly under the sway of yellow-fever.

                  • AngelDelight says:

Fact is, you don’t speak, read or write chinese. Suck it up.

                  • blah says:

You’re nore an angel, and you’re definitely NOT a delight. What you are is a Brit with a horsey mouth who is mos definitely a CAD, among other things, and who needs to accept the fact that it is unacceptable and hateful of you to pass racist, unjustified judgement on the entire South Korean ethnic group. Hate Kpop all you want, nbut don’t hate on the SOuth Koreans without having good reason for it. Otherwise, just admit that you are an anti-Korean racists so that
we’d at least take pity on you and leave you alone for a time in your delusional world. Suck it up and get over it.

      • Mia says:

The Chinese invited Kim Huyn Joong to sing their theme song with other four popular Chinese singers at the Asian Game in 2010. That’s significant enough to tell the influence of Korean entertainment.
It’s just a poll for fans. No need to get all defensive!

        • CadburysCreamEgg says:

That was just to make the josunjuk happy.

        • lina says:

I was in China at the time watching it with friends and family, no one knew who he was. They were like “Oh, he’s Korean? I see.” and that seemed to justify the entire reason of why it was okay for him to be there among the rest of the Chinese stars who are VERY POPULAR in China. It just gives the illusion of some international cooperation.

          • CadburysCreamEgg says:

They usually just think it’s some Josunjuk .. and don’t know the name. Probably just on there to keep the koreans being educated in china happy to see someone similar to them.

    • jenny says:

not really China have their own stars the prefer more- their local stars have way more fan numbers and hits compared to their Korean counterparts if you check the rankings eg on Baidu. Indeed Chinese do have some Korean stars they like because they’re more open to foreign stuff unlike Korea. But if you noticed the number of people who voted was only in the mere thousands. For a country with a population of over 1 billion. this poll is not representative of China at all. Korean stars are more popular with younger kids, but since China has an aging population of more older people, that is not a large proportion.

      • CadburysCreamEgg says:

You’re quite true, jenny. What’s more annoying is the number of people on this website who, unlike yourself apparently, have no knowledge of China and just seem to socially construct factless opinions like ‘chinese love everything korean’ when nothing could be further from the truth. Most Chinese in Qingdao find Koreans petulant, annoying and get bored of them sniffing around for mistresses.

      • blah says:

And what’s just as annoying are rotten EGGS lke you who also have no knowledge of KOREA and “just seem to socially construct factless opinions” like “everybody hates Koreans” when nothing could be further from the truth.

Most people in Popseoul find CadburysROTTENEgg aka Baicai aka Sausage aka Bratwurst aka Watermelon as PETULANT, ANNOYING, and get bored of him sniffing around for people willing to import him to fisty Korean farmers. That’s why he has to keep on changing his name, otherwise he’d never get any business.

        • CadburysCreamEgg says:

By Korea, do you mean South or North or Historical? Because I seem to know quite a bit about it really.

I love it how you korean guys get really angry at Europeans simply because we don’t like your women, and that really irks you, because you think Korean women are the best in the world and everyone should love them. Sadly the truth is different and gets you angry.

        • blah says:

Didn’t we have this conversation before?
And NO, you don’t know anything about South or North or Historical. You just THINK you do, until someone comes along and proves what an ignorant racist ASS you really are.

And like I said, I couldn’t care less what YOU find attractive. It’s just funny how you’ve taken it upon yourself to speak for all European males because clearly, speaking for just yourself doesn’t carry much weight.

          • CadburysCreamEgg says:

You’re just angry that European guys prefer to date Chinese women who have natural double eyelids, rarely have plastic surgery and long slender legs. So while your korean women are dating american and slowly becoming more fat and gun-weilding, chinese women are becoming more cultured (excluding the ugly chinese who marry americans)

Why is this fact eating you up inside so much? Is it because you, like most korean guys, want a chinese mistress or second-wife?

          • blah says:

Chinese women don’t get plastic surgery and have longer legs than Korean ladies? hmmm, that’s debateable, but I won’t repeat our earlier discussions here since it’s quite pointless to do so with someone lacking short & long term memory.

Trust me, I’m not angry at European men. I have no reason to be, after all YOU are the one with issues against Korean women, not the rest of the European male collective.

As I said before, I just find it amusing that you need to hide behind your imaginary status of European male spokesman in order to make your feel that your opinions carry any weight. Carry on.

            • CadburysCreamEgg says:

That’s fine, we all know Chinese women don’t have plastic surgery and have longer legs. That’s why china is full of Korean ‘pigeon father’ business men trying to get second wife, knowing that they don’t have to spend all their money on surgery.

            • blah says:

That is what YOU think about Chinese women, but we all know what the worth is of YOUR thoughts. But a laugh is a laugh, so carry on.

              • CadburysCreamEgg says:

                It’s not opinion.. just fact.

Backed up by the large number of your countrymen sniffing around china for second wives and being kicked into touch by chinese women who find them abhorrent.

              • blah says:

And what anti-Korean website are you ripping this from? You are so predictable, and I love how you like to label everything you’ve constructed as “facts”. HAHAHA, almost as hilarious as your hiding behind your imaginary European male spokesman status. Carry on my little imbecile clown.

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

why do you think the latest trend in Korea is ‘pigeon fathering’ where you send your wife and kids to USA and spend your days looking for mistresses.
Seems you don’t know about korean culture.

              • blah says:

here’s a little update on that factoid: This “trend” is nothing new, and has been going on for quite some time. Things are actually changing right now though because of more public recognition of the negative effects on the husband, the wife, and the children on dividing a family just for the sake of educating the kids. And as another FYI, this “trend” has also been taking place among the middle and upper class Japanese and Chinese households as well. Please don’t make a further ass of yourself with your comments, it’s really pathetic and I don’t like giving you kicks when you are obviously down. BUT.. Do what you have to do to stay sane, and if your delusional world is your safe harbor, then stay there. CARRY ON my little lackwit.

                • CadburysCreamEgg says:

You don’t seem to be able to say anything without saying ‘the chinese and japanese do this .. blah blah.’

You always seem to try to reference the chinese and the japanese in everything you talk about.

                • blah says:

That’s because YOU always seem to think that it’s only the KOREANS who do anything negative in Asia.

                • blah says:

Nope, it’s NEGATIVE. and you wouldn’t know anything about MY culture because you don’t know anything about South Korea apart from what you scavenge from internet sites dedicated to K-pop.

                • AngelDelight says:

You wouldn’t know anything about your culture either, because you, like most koreans, spend all your time in the USA wishing you weren’t korean.

                • blah says:

You can’t beat me logically, so you resort to making up bed-time stories to make yourself feel better. Since you don’t have a brain or a memory worth mentioning, it really won’t matter how many times I have to tell your imbecilic ASS that I live in Korea and spend the majority of my time in Korea. You are just a sad sad sad demented little lackwit who can’t cope with reality, so like I said before. Do what you have to do to stay sane, and if that means clinging to your pathetically demented beliefs, then more power to you. Just realize that the rest of the world doesn’t take you seriously and don’t jump off a bridge because of that. Good luck in life Sausage, you really really do need it.

                  • AngelDelight says:

I beat you hands down. You’re the one coming up with emotive statements about how koreans don’t all move to the USA when they do.

          • queenbqty says:

Shut it and get back to having fights in Laundrettes and Gas-stations like all the other people in your hood.

              • queenbqty says:

Ha Ha, pasty white boy is mad, so he resorts to racist insults because he is being “owned” by a lovely Korean person.

    • condom says:

yea. like hyoyeon eventho shes not that pretty but has talent for dance. or taeyeon, not as tall as talentless b*tch but has talent in singing. but talentless b*tch has nothing to excel in yet ppl think shes all good when shes ordinary. minus her height and looks shes a goner. no talent no look. so she should thank god for blessing her w/ her height and looks if not no ones gonna give 2 flying fucks bout her man

    • ninie says:

      agree !!!

  6. bd2 says:

Aside from SSH and MGY, the list is rather lame, but then again, it’s probably largely voted on by teenie boppers and slanted towards those who have current/recent projects.

    • CadburysCreamEgg says:

The selection criteria for people voting is that they’re chinese, who read the ‘korean entertainment’ section on a relatively obscure and unknown website, which seems devoted to Korean things. There is no external validity to this poll, and you’d probably struggle to find anything more biased.

  7. Yen says:

As expected! Hahaha Go Hyun Joong oppa! Hihi

  8. Pinky says:

I knew Yoona will be inside! Over-rated to some I know since I have to agree too that she’s not say THAT awesome in any aspect (singing, dancing and acting that is), but we have to admit she has that likability in her, which I suppose lies in her chirpy personality. 🙂

    • Yoona FTW! says:

Ya ya but I love her too! Id beg to differ, her acting skills in YAMD (her first drama) did not started out very good but she made her way to impressive acting thereafter. And Cinderella Man’s not-really-good-ratings can’t be entirely blamed on her, there’s always dramas which appeals more to the public and those who don’t maybe Cinderella Man was tilted slightly more to the latter. But still, I lover her acting. And for her singing, she may not have some power vocals like her leader Taeyeon do, but the very least, she tried her best and did a solo SLOW number, though her voice’s always shaking (I don’t know why is she so afraid of projecting her voice out, poor Yoona), that proves she wants to overcome this barrier of hers. And for dancing, yes she may be dancing very stiffly in her audition video for SM (she was reeeaaally young then), but her dancing improves and that makes her one of the four main dancers in SNSD up to date.

What a long story for Yoona, you can opt to read or not to, your choice, just thought that I’d write out how yoo-nique (unique) Yoona is. 🙂

      • condom says:

youre nuts. writing sucha long story of a talentless b*tch

      • emma says:

YAWN. Don’t give excuses. She can’t act, she can’t sing, her dancing is mediocre. She’s getting better? lol, she should have never debuted because she’s got a LONG way to go to perfect any of these skills. Oh, and her personality is BORING.

        • CadburysCreamEgg says:

That could be a description of anyone in K-pop, let’s be fair.

          • Proton says:

Not really. Not a fan of K-pop here but even I can see there are other girls in her SNSD group whose personality and talents outshine her. Make is short, in every aspect they do. That’s why people don’t get it when someone with mediocre talent, relatively plain look and a boring personality could actually garner that much attention. Yuri in her group I’d say, stand out much more in comparison to her. And many others too, just that I do not want to create an essay here so full-stop.

        • YOONA says:

noooo! she can!!! i just love her she’s damn perfect!!
