No it’s not a cult…or something where the fans refer to the leader of idol group as their leader. Come on now. Lina Perez probably meant Kim Hyun-joong is a leader, a winner, since he’s been so successful. Or maybe Lina called him a leader because Kim Hyun-joong is still the leader of SS501.
K-Pop groups, they usually pick one member as their leader, usually the oldest member with good leadership skills. Leaders keep the team together, and often represent the group, but I don’t think it really means anything. Some groups don’t have any leaders.
She did not call him her leader, she called him Leader because he is still the Leader of SS501. You ain’t TripleS, so don’t try to understand, you may injure your tiny mind.

Based on what I’ve read before about SS501, when they were still promoting in Japan, fans got confused of Kim Hyun Joong and Kim Hyung Joon, (his bandmate who is the youngest in the group), Therefore, they used Leader for Kim Hyun Joong and Baby for Kim Hyung Joon. As time passes by, SS501 gets used to it that even non-Japanese fans call them Leader and Baby.
It’s a cult where they deify korean people. It’s that simple and basically the ‘Cult of Korean’. They’ll deny it to the conkers, but the facts are the same, these people deify Korean people.
well Triple S call him leader because in SS501, we have Kim hyung joon = Baby (the youngest member of SS501) and Kim Hyun Joong = Leader (the oldest member of SS501), if you pronounce the 2 names it sound the same in Korean , Japanese and English language, so to easily distinguish the 2 member Triple S decided to call the youngest Baby and the oldest Leader is not a cult thing issue

No, it’s not a cult. Triple S call him Leader to avoid confusion. SS501 does not use screen names unlike other idol groups. One member of SS501 is named Kim Hyung Joon and he is Kim Hyun Joong. Confusing, right? So to avoid messing up their names we call him Leader and the other Baby/Maknae, or if we’re using initials, write it as HJL and HJB. The boys are aware of their nicknames too. In fact, I believe they started the Leader-Maknae thing in Japan because their names are written in the same Jap. characters. So it’s not a cult. Just a way to make things easier.

We call him Leader because 1) He’s the oldest and is the leader of SS501 and 2) because, like the other people said, Hyun-Joong (Leader) is similar to Hyung-Joon (Baby) and it helps differentiate them. Plus, all of them have nicknames: Leader, Otter/Prince, Center, Horse/Charisma, and Baby/Magkne.

I think KHJ is one of the most popular young male celeb in Korea. SS501 – one of the most popular & biggest group, Boys Over Flowers – one of the most popular show, Dream High and many other dramas, one of the biggest CF model, what more do you need?
Popularity and talent rarely go together.
Like Paris Hilton is popular but she is not talented in anything.
KHJ is by far not a good actor and he is a decent singer. Its is just his good looks and luck in being BOF.

I have been a fan of KDRAMA’s for over 8 years and so I was interested on who was going to play “rui” so I had to look him up on the internet.
I like k-music as well but the only group that I do know that are truly popular are DBSK and Big Bang.
u must watch Playfull Kiss too. he is so hot there. lets google him. TVXQ is a sunbae for SS501. they debuted on 2005. its almost 6 yrs now.

I agree. As he’s getting older the more the “pretty boy” image fits him. Not that he was super masculine from the start, but he did have more of a “guys guy” image compared to the rest of the members in his group who I always wondered about their orientation.

Because I’ve lived in Japan and China and I know for a fact that Chinese and Japanese DO NOT worship Koreans.
Examples are in Qingdao in China which is full of Korean men looking for mistresses and Koreans are typically referred to as ‘sex pests’ by the Locals. In Japan, Zainichi Koreans and Koreans in general are seen as suspicious given that Koreans like to rewrite their history, military invade japanese islands and kidnap Japanese people from beaches.
Generally Chinese and Japanese people like their own cultures and act with decorum, as compared to S.E. Asians who seemingly hate their own cultures, deify koreans and generally seem to be riddled with so much self hatred while they beg koreans to marry them, that it even looks funny to Europeans like myself, who couldn’t care less.

Whoa! Congrats! I’ve always found this guy a refreshing change frm other idols – honest to a fault, completely awkward at times, adorkable, keeps to himself, but really witty when he speaks. Really an interesting blend. I’ve always liked his singing, and he is improving every time he takes on an acting role. Because he is truly popular, Kim Hyun Joong has a good chance at winning. Fans just have to vote to ensure that their opinions count, that’s all. People can go on and on whether he is talented or not; it is not the point though, is it? I am a fan of his, ergo I shall vote for him and support his projects when I could. I like SS501. I’m looking forward to Leader’s solo album which is scheduled to be released this June. I will try to vote for him so that my vote would count and help him win. I certainly don’t deify him. He’s smart, honest, entertaining, hard working, charismatic, witty in his own quirky ways, all are reasons why his faithful fans love him and why he has won many popular awards in the past. He’s not full of himself and also is a very generous person. Among the idols and celebrities in S.E. Asia, he’s the first to donate to the Tsunami victims in Thailand and to Japan’s recent earthquake disaster victims. Not bad for a young man who still hasn’t quite reach his 25th birthday as yet.
