The trailer to the Hollywood remake of the hit movie My Sassy Girl has been leaked. Judging from the preview, Hollywood has managed to turn the hilarious and charming original into a crap-tacular romantic cheese-fest starring Jesse Bradford and Elisa Cuthburt.
The leading D-list actors alone should be indication enough that this movie will bomb at the box office. Jesse Bradford fails to embody the goofy charisma of Cha Tae Hyun, while Elisa Cuthburt comes off as too edgy and too bipolar.
Asian fans will not be pleased, and American audiences will not be interested. Loyal netizens are already buzzing about how this new version will inevitably pale in comparison to the original. Hollywood needs to quit remaking classics to cover up for their own insipid and uninspired movie plots.
The movie is slated to be released later this year.
Don’t be too surprised if it goes straight to DVD.
Miss sexy cutie, Lee Hyori looks hot in this shiny olive dress and long black boots but the girl is just too sexy for herself that she can’t dance to the beat of a drum by the Acoustic Brothers. Our girl broke out into a spontaneous jig at the 2007 MBC University Music Festival while sharing MC duties with Cha Tae-yun.
The Korean media are all over this calling the dance “sexy” and have given these moves a name- the “pong pong pong” dance by the way she jerks her hips and chest around.
Yah, the pictures may look hot but pictures only tell part of the story….

Celebrity guests at Park Kyong-rim‘s wedding were on the casual side for their choice of wedding attire. Maybe I lean more on the conservative side when it comes to formal occassions, but I think that jeans, shorts, t-shirts or short dresses are not appropriate for such events – especially if there are a bride and her bridesmaids wearing floor length gowns. Also the colors black and white should be a wedding no-no, but almost all the guests chose this theme as their color (except for Jang Na-ra). Ok, that’s fine. I am down with the new rules that say black or white is ok as long as the color doesn’t take away from the bride (i.e. white outfit that looks like a wedding dress) or look like you are going to a funeral. But after covering these formal events and awards here at POPSEOUL!, I am tired of seeing celebs wearing inappropriate attire! When will someone realize there is a time and place for short skirts and jeans?
Korea’s hottest celebs including Jang Hyuk, Gong You, Yoon Kae Sang, Zo In Sung, Ji Jin Hee and Cha Tae Hyun all gathered together for the Hallyu Romantic Festival held in Japan over the weekend. Since actors usually can’t show their acting talent on stage, they prepared their own “show and tell.” read more
Flowers for Life, starring two of Korea’s top movie stars, Cha Tae Hyun and Kang Hae Jung is proving to be an embarrassment for the producers and the stars. Yesterday, they broke Nielsen Korea’s lowest rating record, scoring at 3.3%. Ouch! These stars can’t even get some die hard fans to turn on the tv on Monday/Tuesday nights to bump up the ratings. So much for fan power and their name value. I’m telling you, if Kang Hye Jung did not get her cosmetic dental surgery, the ratings would have been much higher. It’s just really hard to focus on the storyline when you are thinking “man, that surgery really messed her up” every time you see her on tv. Don’t ya agree?
Can you recognize the stars from these sticker pictures? Back in the late 90s, taking sticker pictures with friends was so ingrained in the culture and I don’t think that there’s a single person in Korea who never stood in front of the sticker picture machine to say “kimchi.” And of course, some of our favorite celebs were also part of this sticker picture craze and it certainly shows. Some stars used wigs to add personality, while others relied on their expressions to make their sticker pictures interesting and memorable. Lastly, through these outdated sticker pictures, we also get a feel of who’s friends with who back in the days. Continue Reading ‘Welcome to the 90s: Sticker Pictures’
Is it just me or does Kang Hae Jung‘s new and improved look so unnatural? After her “braces,” Kang Hae Jung completely lost her charm, making her no better than regular folks on the streets of Seoul. Also, when did braces completely restructure your face? I’ve seen many friends endure the pain of braces but the end result was never this dramatic – you just get perfectly lined teeth, not a completely new face! I know that this is old news, but I just needed to vent since I had to stare at her frightening face to write this post.
Okay, back to the drama. Simply put Flowers for Life is Koreanized version of HBO’s hit series Six Feet Under. All characters are involved in the death business – Na Hana’s (Kang Hye Jung) dad runs a funeral home and Yoon Ho Sang (Cha Tae Hyun) inherits his
dad’s father in law’s (?) funeral home and the rest of the drama is about these two characters falling in love and learning about the true meaning of love and death. Eh..I’m not sure if this is my kind of drama but it will air on May 14th if any of you are interested.
